HAPPY BLIZZARD DAY ‘10

FRIDAY OPEN THREAD

I would like to express my gratitude, today:

Thank you, Alabama Republican Sen. Richard Shelby for standing in the way of the confirmation of 70 presidential nominees – proving to America’s children that they CAN have their way if they hold their breath long enough.

Thank you, Connecticut and Massachusetts voters. You know who you are.  Maybe, we’ll all get together one day and have a real celebration..  on the bread lines

Thank you, Tea Party delegates for letting the rest of us know that we really don’t have to know anything about the Constitution to cite the Constitution.

Thank you, Democratic Party for losing the Health-care Reform battle.  Now, we can get to the real business of passing a single-payer option.

Thank you, Sen. Al Franken for being who you are and Blue-dog Democrats are not.

Thank you, AVATAR movie that I’ve seen in 3-D for a third time, for helping me save the money I would have spent on a bottle of Jack Daniels for the same effect.

Thank you, Rush Limbaugh for making my drive less stressful, because it is such a relief when I turn you off my radio.

TUESDAY OPEN THREAD

This comes under the you-just-can’t-make-this-stuff-up category: Las Vegas  Mayor Oscar Goodman said he is going to do all that he can to give the President the boot,  in 2012.  Apparently, Mr. Obama’s common-sense advice regarding personal finances offended the mayor.   The President told high school kids in New Hampshire, “You don’t blow a bunch of cash on VEGAS when you’re trying to save for college. You prioritize. You make tough choices.”   That would seem like  sound advice for youngsters and adults, but apparently not for his honor the mayor.

TUESDAY OPEN THREAD

I’m betting that you are going to hear a lot of  “One-Term Presidency” talk in news casts and talk shows.  It is my impression that  it is what the general-media Jokers may try to push onto the public mindset,  leading up to the State of the Union address.

THURSDAY OPEN THREAD

HEALTH CARE REFORM

It may be time to start from scratch;  time to go all-out for single-payer.

The news keeps getting worse:

The Supreme Court ruled Thursday that corporations may spend freely to support or oppose candidates for president and Congress. The ruling eases decades-old limits on their participation in federal campaigns.

If you include the election, in Massachusetts, this week has been  like a one-two punch against real change.

MONDAY OPEN THREAD

“… liberal members do have an incentive to compromise—the tens of thousands of people who die every year for lack of health insurance. The leverage that Lieberman and other “centrists” have obtained on this issue (and on climate change) stems from a demonstrated willingness to embrace sociopathic indifference to the human cost of their actions.”

WEDNESDAY OPEN THREAD

Sometimes, you just can’t find the humor.   Unless finding out that the joke’s on you strikes you as funny.

No public option.   No low-cost prescription drugs.  Get it?
